To obey means more than following a set of rules.
To obey means:
- You have made a personal choice to surrender your life to Jesus in all things, that you may be conformed to His image (Isaiah 64:8; Romans 8:29).
- You’ve chosen to make it your heartfelt commitment to obey (Deuteronomy 6:5)
- You’re committed for a lifetime (Deuteronomy 12:1).
Deuteronomy 5:29 rings with the plea of a parent to a perpetually disobedient child, and yet it comes with a promise:
…that it might be well with them and with their children forever.
Despite our disobedience, God still wants to bless us. With obedience, comes risk, responsibility and reward (Deuteronomy 8:1-20). We are never exempt, but we are never without God either (Deuteronomy 10:12-22).
Nonetheless, there are blessings for obedience (Deuteronomy 28:1-14), and consequences for disobedience (Deuteronomy 28:15-68). Therefore, choose to obey (Deuteronomy 30).
