It’s hard to sit still and have private time with God. We have our responsibilities, desires, and other things that compete for our attention. Sometimes it’s hard because we want God to answer us quickly; not tomorrow or, God help us, later. We want Him to deliver our instant spiritual meal, hot and ready, so we can be on our way.
I have found—at least for me—the primary issue is personal comfort. If it makes me feel good, I will create time in my day to do it.
But the word of God comforts as well as convicts (John 14:23-26; 16:7-15). So, only a change of heart will do:
Surrender your heart to God, turn to him in prayer, and give up your sins—even those you do in secret. -Job 11:13-14, CEV
Here is what the Bible says about truth:
- Psalm 119:160
- John 1:17
- John 4:23
- John 8:32
- John 14:6; 16-17
- John 15:26
- John 16:13
- 1 John 2:27
- 1 John 4:2-6
That’s the whole story. Here now is my final conclusion: Fear God and obey his commands, for this is everyone’s duty. God will judge us for everything we do, including every secret thing, whether good or bad. -Ecclesiastes 12:13-14, NLT
