February is a reflective time for me. I get to celebrate my birthday, my salvation, my heritage, and Valentine’s Day. I try to read books and watch movies that allow me to reflect on how far I (and we) have come, how far I (and we) have to go, and the love that we share.
But this year calls for me to do more than reflect. I have to activate faith I’ve never used before (Hebrews 11:1).
So, to all of us who believe in Jesus, in the celebration of black life, and in love, let’s read Hebrews 11:1-12:29 and put faith in action by learning to:
- Prioritize. What can we control? Time and money are our greatest resources.
- Be watchful. Keep ourselves protected.
- Take care of ourselves. Rely on Jesus (Matthew 11:28-30). Reach out to family and friends. Make physical and mental health a priority.
- Play the long game. Celebrate small victories. Change course when necessary, and keep it moving.
- Celebrate love, all the love in our lives.
Celebrate Black History Month, and Happy Valentine’s Day!
