Faith in Action

February is a reflective time for me. I get to celebrate my birthday, my salvation, my heritage, and Valentine’s Day. I try to read books and watch movies that allow me to reflect on how far I (and we) have come, how far I (and we) have to go, and the love that we share.

But this year calls for me to do more than reflect. I have to activate faith I’ve never used before (Hebrews 11:1).

So, to all of us who believe in Jesus, in the celebration of black life, and in love, let’s read Hebrews 11:1-12:29 and put faith in action by learning to:

  1. Prioritize. What can we control? Time and money are our greatest resources.
  2. Be watchful. Keep ourselves protected.
  3. Take care of ourselves. Rely on Jesus (Matthew 11:28-30). Reach out to family and friends. Make physical and mental health a priority.
  4. Play the long game. Celebrate small victories. Change course when necessary, and keep it moving.
  5. Celebrate love, all the love in our lives.

Celebrate Black History Month, and Happy Valentine’s Day!
