Do not be conformed to this world (this age), [fashioned after and adapted to its external, superficial customs], but be transformed (changed) by the [entire] renewal of your mind [by its new ideals and its new attitude], so that you may prove [for yourselves] what is the good and acceptable and perfect will of God, even the thing which is good and acceptable and perfect [in His sight for you].
-Romans 12:2, Amplified
This summer, I found myself consumed by a series of events, some of which were carefully planned, and others that came completely by surprise. By the end of summer, in my private devotion with God, I was able to see how staying true to God’s word, even amidst the chaos and most difficult times, made me a better person. It changed my outlook and transformed me into a person with a more positive outlook. I feel stronger and better able to manage my strengths and weaknesses, knowing that God created me to use for His purpose (Ephesians 2:10). For the first time, I am experiencing the freedom and confidence of feeling accepted in the Beloved (Ephesians 1:3-6).
To be transformed means to change in composition or structure, in outward form or appearance, or character or condition (Merriam-Webster Collegiate Dictionary, 11th edition). The Bible makes clear the work of the Holy Spirit in transforming our lives (Titus 3:8; 2 Corinthians 3:18) but also teaches that we play an active part (Ephesians 4:21-24; Colossians 3:10).
Over the next year, I want to post once per month what it means for me to be transformed in Christ. Hopefully, by the end, you will be transformed into the person God intended you to be, feeling more comfortable with yourself and with others, secure in the confidence of one who is loved by God.
