When God tells me to do something, I try to do it with all my might. But the moment I do, it seems like all of heaven and earth conspire against me (Ecclesiastes 9:10, 11), a cycle I can’t seem to break. I get angry and self-sabotage. I eat a delicious meal that has almost no nutritional value. I spend money on frivolous things. I get distracted and lose faith, blaming others and dwelling on my circumstances. Unwilling to let things go.
I need an attitude adjustment. The kind of attitude where I recognize that I matter. Where I tend to my self-care needs. One where I save my money and pay my bills rather than acquire new ones, and don’t allow every situation to distract me from my calling. That helps me to remember that my faith carries me. That allows me to be more grateful. Forget the past. Forgive. Let go.
A major attitude adjustment.
Saying I need it and adopting it are two completely different things.
How do I do it, and how do I not lose it, like a tightly wound screw that suddenly comes undone?
Once I pursue it, and if I ever achieve it, it almost certainly will fall apart, just like a tightly wound screw that suddenly comes undone. But in the meantime, there are some things I can do.
I can start with the word of God. Everything starts and ends with God:
Revelation 22:13, King James Version
I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end, the first and the last.
And then I can remember that I matter:
John 1:12, Amplified Bible
But to as many as did receive and welcome Him, He gave the authority (power, privilege, right) to become the children of God, that is, to those who believe in (adhere to, trust in, and rely on) His name.
